CBS Legends

Dan Taylor

Dan’s been in radio since graduating High School in 1976  and by the age of 20 was soon hired at WCBS-FM where he became the youngest radio personality on the New York City airwaves. Less than a year later he was hired away to do Country at WHN where he remained one of the top 10 afternoon drivetime dominators in the US. After 7 years he was hired at 66 WNBC and hosted a weekend oldies show and became the permanent fill in’ host for the Imus in the Morning’ program. Dan then joined Mix 105 as their afternoon host where he again enjoyed a ratings success for nearly 7 years. But the time was right to come full circle and he again joined the ranks of the station he started with, WCBS-FM. He remained there until the stations demise in 2005. But returns in it’s rebirth as our Morning Drive host. A voice-over artist for many commercials, and promo voice for radio and TV stations across the US and Canada, he’s been working in NYC radio for nearly 30 years. Dan divides his time between being “on the air” to being “in the air” flying his vintage planes. (And he’s building 2 more!) A commercially rated pilot, Dan has flown vintage aircraft in Great Britain as well and has traveled as far away as Australia, flying before 350,000 people at the Australian International Air show ‘Down Under’. He also enjoys public speaking about early aviation history, and directing school students about careers in broadcasting and aviation.

Bob Shannon

Bob is a 40 year veteran of radio, who began his career (under the name Don Bombard) in his hometown of Syracuse, N.Y., USA.  There, he developed his announcing skills, and broke into radio by competing with the city's radio stations  while still in high school.  He compiled and printed a weekly record sales chart which he distributed to local record stores. This brought him to the attention of the two then popular rock and roll stations, WNDR and WOLF where he eventually worked as an announcer, music director, and programmer.  In the late 70's, he moved to Pittsburgh, where he created and hosted the highest rated radio program in the market, The Sunday Night Oldies Party on 13Q (WKTQ). The show scored a 25 share (12+) in its time slot.

The early 80's brought him to New York, where after a brief time as a fill in announcer at WYNY, he took on a new job (and a new name) at WCBS FM/101.1.. He originated the nightly Hall of Fame program, and for 19 years was CBS's successful afternoon drive personality--with consistent Top 5 12+ and 25-54 ratings. Bob combines an expert's knowledge of the history of popular music with a quick wit, tight production and contemporary commentary.

He also has a number of nationally syndicated radio shows and specials under his belt, including The Oldies Countdown and live nationwide broadcasts from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. He hosted the national three hour weekly program Keepin' The 70's Alive as well as the short form daily show Behind The Hits, based on his book of the same name.

Bob is one of the world's most highly recognized musicologists. As co author (with John Javna) of the book Behind The Hits, Bob tells the inside stories behind some of the biggest records of the ‘50s   ‘80s, translating his breezy radio personality into print. For the book, as for his radio shows, Bob has interviewed just about every major artist of the rock era providing both information and in many cases, the enduring legacies, of those often-forgotten who built modern pop, rock and soul music.

Although the book is out-of-print, Bob has developed his own flourishing Behind The Hits website (http://bobshannon.com). Visitors can read excerpts from the book, as well as articles by guest columnists. Plus, Bob provides extensive research links to artists’ websites and other music related areas on the Internet.

Bob's talents have also been showcased extensively on the Internet with broadcasts on RadioMaxMusic (http:// radiomaxmusic.com) and in collaboration with his wife Connie T. Empress on WLNG Radio with a weekly Behind the Hits show (http://wlng.com). Most recently, Bob was chosen to be one of the dj's on the new soul music station VIP Radio in England

Broadway Bill Lee

This well-known veteran of radio got into the business the same year WCBS-FM went on the air in 1972 with the Greatest Hits of All Time. Growing up in Cleveland during the “Boom of Rock & Roll”, he listened to great artists and dj’s  like Alan Freed, Mad Daddy and others. After working in bands in the 60s, radio called and Mr. Lee answered, eventually programming WTIC-FM in Hartford. He went on to jock at great stations like KFRC in San Francisco, WLOL in Minneapolis, and KPKE Denver, before landing in afternoon drive at New York’s HOT 103 (later HOT 97).
During the late 80s, Bill maintained prominence in New York before heading back to San Francisco to anchor The KMEL Morning Zoo. By the spring of 1996, the urge to come back home to New York was too irresistible to resist afternoons at KTU, New York.

It was in those 10 years that “Broadway” really got around and made lots of friends in the boroughs, on the Island, in Jersey and up the Hutch.

With affection for original Rock & Roll, Mr. Lee also hosts mornings for The Fifties on Five for XM Satellite Radio.
He’s done lots of charity work for The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The March of Dimes and The Manhattan Society to name a few.  Bill is the father of three grown boys, and he and his wife, New York radio personality Beth Bacall, are raising two girls and two cats.

Broadway Bill Lee has received The Billboard Radio Magazine award for Radio Personality of the Year, as well as Personality of the Year from Radio & Records Magazine and two New York Metro Air Awards for Best Afternoon Drive Show.
…Able to rhyme on a dime in perfect time, fool around on the phone and get your mind blown with a blast from the past…you’re listening to Broadway Bill Lee on CBS-FM.

Joe Causi

Brooklyn's Own Joe Causi is among New York’s legendary disc jockeys.  He has been a staple in New York radio since the early 80’s. Presently on WCBS FM 101.1,’ Joe has the attitude that listeners love.

Raised in the Bensonhurst Brooklyn, Causi can truly claim to be ‘Brooklyn's Own.’  He takes what his hometown has given him from the street and shares it with his radio audience.  Whether it is advertisers' grand openings, dance clubs or concerts, Joe's warm sense of humor and ability to relate to people has made him a favorite with listeners.

Joe has been making people smile almost all his life.  Always the class clown, he got his start by imitating people - teachers, movie stars and, ultimately, anything that made a sound!  Impersonations developed into a natural talent and an effective entertaining tool coupled with his air personality.

A graduate of the College of Staten Island, where he majored in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Joe soon realized that music and performance were where his heart and talent were.  After enrolling in the Announcer Training Broadcast Studios in New York City, Joe was selected from a group of 100 people to work as an in-store disc jockey at Jimmy's Music World, a large record outlet in Manhattan.

In March 1978, Joe joined WMFG Radio in Hibbing, MN where he rounded out his talent and experience working in production, hosting live remotes, sportscasting and news.  However, New York City started calling him back and within five months, he relocated to WERA Radio in Plainfield, NJ where he produced the stations' commercials utilizing his vivid imagination.  In January 1979, getting a bit closer to home, he moved to WJDM Radio in Elizabeth NJ for the midday on-air position

Joe’s dreams of making it big in New York City came true after only a three-month stint at WJDM.  He received a call to audition from the Legendary Disco 92 in New York City and joined the station as their morning personality.  Joe Causi soon became the most listened to radio personality in the United States.
Joe received the honor of Grand Marshall of the Christopher Columbus parade in Brooklyn from the Federation of Italian Americans.  As a Sicilian-American, Joe says, "It just doesn't get any better than that!"

In addition to his hectic life at WCBS-FM, Joe serves as a field corespondent for Court TV's ‘Hollywood Heat’ and co-host of the "The Wiseguy Show” on satellite radio.  Joe currently lives in Staten Island NY.
